Racing Horses
Huntington Dr / Gateway Dr, Arcadia, CA
April, 2022
Among the important, iconic venues of Arcadia, and indeed in all of Southern California is Santa Anita racetrack park, home to countless prestigious races.
This mural pays tribute to this landmark, and the jockeys, since a good jockey is as important to his horse as a conductor to an orchestra – a horse race is a symphony in motion. The front side shows a detailed image of a participant in race, standing out from a group of colorful silhouettes, with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background and a lane of iconic palm trees standing tall – all part of the scenery.
Soft pastel colors and design are inspired by the streamlined and sleek poster style of art deco period, where elements are minimalist, sharp, high contrast with a reduced color palette.
