A Comunity in Action

1515 N. Glenoaks Boulevard Burbank, CA 91504
September 2024

Creating this mural was a fascinating project. We kicked off this mural project back in 2021 when I submitted my proposal. By April 2024, we started painting a mural about the diverse and interesting recreational activities here. The project was initially called “Past, Present, and Future of Burbank.” We refined the elements and themes, and eventually, we created this mural, now titled “A Community in Action.” because this hub is a vital part of the city and will continue to be, and I am glad to have contributed to it.

  • The proposal is an art installation that welcomes visitors to the center. It extends from the stage to the side walls to create an immersive effect when visiting the recreation center.
  • The geometric motif was my personal touch to this design. Due to my engineering background, I have incorporated angles and lines into my design, creating a contrast with the freestyle of the figures in the foreground.
  • In the center there is the letter B (for Burbank) that connects with the large “B” out of stones in Verdugo Mountains. It also has icons related to the dynamics of the city: aerospace developments and the entertainment industry.
  • In the main stage area, you’ll see a series of images related to various activities hosted by the center. The figures are blurred into colorful silhouettes to keep them generic and not referring to an specific person.
  • On the back walls, silhouettes of basketball, volleyball, and soccer players suggest the future sportsmen and sportswomen who will rise in Burbank. The inclusion of a para-athlete, a sportswoman, and children are elements that celebrate diversity.

My purpose is to create something valuable and appropriate to the locale and decorative that will add value to the venue with a more contemporary style that will connect with new and old generations.

The project was completed with the help of his team—Baltazar Lopez, Tomas Arana, and Scott Cardona—they brought a splash of color and a message of togetherness to the Sport Center. They hope this mural will add life to the place and inspire those who see it.
